Premiership Winners

The New Zealand Football Championship, commonly known as the Premiership, is the top professional football league in New Zealand. The league has been held annually since 2004 and has seen multiple teams emerge as champions over the years. Here’s a look at the teams that have won the Premiership:

Auckland City – Auckland City has won the Premiership a record 12 times, establishing themselves as the most successful team in the competition’s history. They have also finished as runners-up four times. Their winning years include 2004–05, 2005–06, 2009–10, 2011–12, 2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20, and 2020–21.
Waitakere United – Waitakere United has won the Premiership five times, making them the second-most successful team in the competition’s history. They have also finished as runners-up twice. Their winning years include 2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11, and 2012–13.
Team Wellington – Team Wellington has never won the Premiership but has finished as runners-up six times, the most recent of which was in the 2020-21 season.
YoungHeart Manawatu – YoungHeart Manawatu has never won the Premiership but finished as runners-up twice, in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
Canterbury United – Canterbury United has never won the Premiership but finished as runners-up once, in the 2007-08 season.
Hawke’s Bay United – Hawke’s Bay United has never won the Premiership but finished as runners-up once, in the 2013-14 season.
Eastern Suburbs – Eastern Suburbs has never won the Premiership but finished as runners-up once, in the 2019-20 season.

The Premiership has seen several different teams emerge as champions over the years, but Auckland City has been the most dominant team in the competition’s history. It will be interesting to see which team will come out on top in the upcoming seasons.

Championship Winners

The Championship is the second tier of football in New Zealand. The above table shows the teams that have won the Championship, along with the number of titles they have won, the number of times they have finished as runners-up, and the years in which they won.

Auckland City has won the Championship eight times, finishing as runners-up five times. They have won the Championship in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2017-18, and 2019-20.

Waitakere United has won the Championship five times and finished as runners-up three times. They won the Championship in 2007-08, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.

Team Wellington has won the Championship three times and finished as runners-up six times. They won the Championship in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2020-21.

Eastern Suburbs has won the Championship once, in 2018-19.

Canterbury United and Hawke’s Bay United have each finished as runners-up twice but have not won the Championship.
